When I was reading the other day an idea and image came into my mind. Allow me to share it with you:

Christ is our Shepherd, He leads us and marks the way. He shows us how to be happy, how to be pure, how to be strong, and how to return to live with Our Father in Heaven. However, when there is just one person walking in a certain way, it may not be as easy to notice them. (Though, of course, the Savior is much more than just any person, we still can help in His work).

Imagine you are in a crowded area–everyone walking their own way. It would be difficult to note the direction any one individual was taking. But what if, in the midst of everyone moving all about, several people were walking in the same direction in a line? Wouldn’t that stand out more?

So what I am thinking is this: if we follow Christ, we help mark the path. We help make the way to live easier to see. We help draw out a line along the path as we follow behind Christ, leaving a more obvious trail for others to follow.

“For there are many yet on the earth among all sects, parties, and denominations, who are blinded by the subtle craftiness of men, whereby they lie in wait to deceive, and who are only kept from the truth because they know not where to find it.” (D&C 123:12)

“Therefore, hold up your light that it may shine unto the world. Behold I am the light which ye shall hold up—that which ye have seen me do.” (words of the Savior in 3 Nephi 18).

Imagine a whole line of people walking with candles held high–wouldn’t it be noticed? Wouldn’t it be a marvel, and likely a comfort, to a dark world?

Let’s help mark the path and thereby help others to find it.

I wish you all a very, merry Christmas!

Love, Sunstone

ps – What are some ways in which we can help mark the gospel path? What are some things you are doing or want to do? How can helping mark the path be a gift to Christ this holiday season (and always)?
